eBay Sucks [ November 28th, 2008 ]

The title says it all.

I have now tried selling over 50 domain names and have done nothing but lose money.  The only people making money off my eBay listings was eBay.  Out of the 50 or so domain names only 20% of them sold, when they did sell the majority were at a lose.  I tried 5, 7 and 10 day auctions; I tried ending them Sunday night, weekdays and weeknights.  The auctions ending in the afternoon on weekdays around 4:30pm est were the most successful by a small percentage.

Needless to say I have removed my eBay link and will be closing the eBay store very soon.  Just need to close out a few transactions.

Three Websites Sold

Last week I sold three websites, PlayNowArcade.com, FastFoodHelp.com and Yjex.com.  I made only a small profit on these but wanted to show everyone the breakdown.

PlayNowArcade.com sold for $200.  It cost me a total of $72, $65 for the domain name and $7 for the logo.  I was able to trade the script which would have cost $149 for advertising on one of my other websites.  Profit on this sale because of the trade comes to roughly $128.

FastFoodHelp.com sold for $150.  This site actually cost me about what it sold for, no profit on this one.

Yjex.com sold for $150.  I used a directory php script which cost me $40 with install, $10 for a logo and then an additional $30 for the domain name.  Profit on this sale comes to roughly $70.

Total profit for all three website sales come to about $198.  I sold these not for the money but for the relief.  I have several major projects I am working on and did not want to see these three websites suffer because I was too busy for them.  For me the $198 profit and time was well worth the sale.

Besides the sales I have been investing my time building relationships at NamePros.com, my favorite domainer forum.  If your not a member then join, put down Chef Patrick for your referral. Also I have been working on DNKitchen.com, the hottest new domainer blog out!!!

My Largest Purchase To Date

Today I picked up XODA.com from a GoDaddy auction.  Purchase price was $805, a little on the high side probably but I am happy.

Why do I like the domain…

-It is a CVCV which is the best of the LLLL domains.
-Could be considered a typo for Soda, the x is right below s.
-X = is normally verbalized as Z, in this instance making this domain name very pronounceable.
-It is a cross between yoda and soda, lol. It could be the next hot brand of energy drink.

Sorry I have not posted much, not much to really report. I have made a few changes to DNKitchen.com so take a look at that when you have the time. I am very proud of that site, we have drawn a lot of attention in the domain world in a very short period of time. Right now it is right below 400 visits per day.

I sold two of my websites, still waiting on the second half of payment. Once that comes in I will announce the sales and break down the profits on them for everyone.

Thank you to everyone who visits the site, enjoy the rest of your weekend.

1and1 Is Terrible

In my opinion 1and1.com is by far one of the worst registrars I have had to work with to date.  I won a domain in auction at one of the domainer forums, the registrar was 1and1.  I figure like all the others I will go online and open a free account.  NO!!!  First there is no online option to setup an account for free.  You can setup an account online but only if you are going to BUY a domain name.  I then called there wonderful customer service (sarcasm) several times.  The final call made ended with them saying I have to purchase web hosting for $3.99 a month in order to get an account.  CLICK, I hung up on that call before I took my frustration out on their employee.

I am going to do a complete review and survey of domain registrars on DNKitchen.com next week, in the mean time stay away from 1and1.

I Banned Digital Point Forum

Well, they banned me first.  I have to say I am extremely upset that they did so.  I am an excellent member with a 60+ itrader and almost 1,000 posts in only the last 4 months.  Why did they ban me?  They say I bumped one of my own threads.  All I did was put a note on a post saying all pms have been responded to.  So something as simple as this, no warning just a 7 day ban.

Well that does not work for me.  I am banning them!!!  I have already removed them as a link from my larger blog DNKitchen.com.  Once my ban is over I will conduct any unfinished business and stop using the forum.

Something like this would never happen at NamePros.com forum, which is my favorite.  There is a warning system in place and excellent communication with the moderators.

Follow Up to Parking

Here is a follow up on my August 30th post about parking domains.

Three weeks ago I only intended to park 20 domain names. I wanted to learn the Parked.com system and get a better understanding what parking was. Well, I couldn’t control myself, I like to do things big. So, I parked my entire GoDaddy portfolio which hold roughly 625 domain names. I really didn’t know what to expect so why not just park them all.

Not knowing what to expert I had zero expectations, which is a good thing when you are learning. I have made $74.57 up until today. Not bad, but not good. Again I don’t have anything to compare this too but I would have liked to see more. In fact, $65.35 comes from only one domain. That is funny, one domain out of 625 accounted for roughly 85% of my parking revenue. The domain name is MyPokerForum.com which I purchased a few months ago.

Having made the majority of the money earned come from one domain name really taught me something. The key to ANY parked domain is traffic, no traffic equals no money. MyPokerForum.com holds a valid page rank one and was a poker forum before I purchased. The majority of my other domains hold zero page rank and were undeveloped before purchasing.

I tested this further and purchased another page ranked domain. Just for test purposes I parked it for two days it and it made about $5.

So now what? I am going to start purchasing some inexpensive page ranked domains and park them. Yes eventually the page rank will disappear along with the traffic but hopefully by then I have made back my up front investment and then some. I will also buy some domains that held sites and keyword domains. An example of a keyword domain for parking would be CarReviews.com, with this example I would actually have the chance of someone looking for car reviews to type in the keywords and .com without a search.
